Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior WordPress Developer to join our team. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and an advanced understanding of custom WordPress development including building custom themes and plugins. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the development of custom WordPress solutions, optimizing performance, ensuring scalability, and driving the technical excellence of our digital projects.
Key Responsibilities
- The ability to build and customize with Elementor, Divi Builder, Kadence and other theme builders.
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of custom WordPress websites and applications.
- Build custom WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations from scratch.
- Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance WordPress solutions for diverse business needs.
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate wireframes and prototypes into fully functional and pixel-perfect web experiences.
- Optimize website speed, performance, SEO, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Ensure website security, data integrity, and compliance with web standards.
- Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers to uphold coding standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Be current with the latest WordPress, PHP, and web technology trends and innovations.
- Integrate third-party APIs and services (e.g., payment gateways, CRM, ERP systems).
- Manage website migrations, server configurations, and deployment processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 4 years of professional experience in WordPress development, with a strong portfolio of custom projects.
- Expert-level proficiency in:
- PHP, MySQL, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), REST API and WordPress Blocks (ACF & React).
- WordPress core functions, actions, filters, and hooks.
- Custom theme and plugin development.
- Strong understanding of:
- Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
- MVC architectural patterns
- WP-CLI and Composer
- Git version control workflows.
- Experience with hosting platforms, server management, and CDN integrations.
- Proficient in debugging tools (Chrome DevTools, Query Monitor, etc.).
- Solid understanding of SEO principles and best practices.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with headless WordPress architecture (e.g., Next.js, Gatsby, REST API, GraphQL).
- Familiarity with page builders (Elementor, WPBakery) while maintaining code integrity.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, DigitalOcean, Google Cloud, etc.).
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of security hardening techniques for WordPress.
- Experience integrating WooCommerce, LearnDash and/or other major plugins.
- Have a published plugin or theme in WordPress public repository, which should be optional but highly regarded.
